Tourist in Bhutan Tests Positive for Novel Coronavirus
BHUTAN – One of the tourists in the place tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus making the first COVID-19 record in the kingdom.
Unfortunately, every day, several cases of coronavirus infection are recorded in the different countries across the globe. The spread of the said disease became an international concern.
The 2019 novel coronavirus, officially called as COVID-19, first sprung in China. More than 70,000 people in the country were infected and Wuhan City, the epicenter of the outbreak, had to be locked-down to curb the spread of the disease.
Globally, more than 2,000 deaths due to coronavirus were recorded. Many countries now are tightly securing the points of entry to their nation.
Recently, Bhutan recorded its first case of the 2019 novel coronavirus. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it was confirmed by their Prime Minister, Lotay Tshering.
According to the Prime Minister, the patient is a tourist from the United States who came from India before flying to Bhutan. It was in March 2 when the 76-year-old man arrived from India. Three (3) after his arrival, he was admitted to a hospital for fever.
Based on the report, to curb the spread of the disease, a two-week travel restriction covering incoming tourists is right away implemented in the place. Several schools in three (3) areas were also temporarily closed for two (2) weeks.
Currently, the authorities are tracing the people the patient had a contact with for the quarantine. Around 90 people were traced and they are now isolated as well as the man’s partner and driver.
