Update on Health of Filipinos from Wuhan, China – DOH

DOH – The Department of Health gave an update on the health condition of Pinoys who were repatriated from Wuhan City, China.

Wuhan City in China was the first to record cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus. It is a new strain of coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) gave it the official name “COVID-19”.

The novel coronavirus, which was believed to have stemmed from bats, bear flu-like symptoms. The patient may experience cough, fever, and shortness of breath.

The Chinese authorities decided to put Wuhan City under a lock-down following the rapid spread of the coronavirus infection. In China, it has infected more than 60,000 people and at least 1,000 died of the said disease.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak in China, several Filipinos in Wuhan expressed desire to be repatriated to the Philippines. It gained a quick response from the government and the Department of Health.

The Pinoys from Wuhan City were brought to New Clark City for a 14-day quarantine period. The crew that fetched the Filipinos from the epicenter of the virus were also quarantined.

Recently, the DOH gave an update regarding the health condition of the Pinoys from Wuhan City, China. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, all of them are “asymptomatic” except for a 38-year-old pregnant woman.

The woman was suffering from high blood pressure and swelling thus the medical team brought her to a hospital according to Health Assistant Secretary for Public Health Services Maria Rosario Vergeire. She added that the woman’s husband is also quarantined now.

Based on the report, Vergeire stressed that all the other repatriates from Wuhan are okay. The health department is hopeful that the quarantine period will end this Saturday.

Once they have passed the quarantine period with good health condition, the repatriates will be brought to their home provinces. The health assistant secretary assured that “they will still be monitored”.
