And with worsening controversies brought about by the franchise renewal, Solicitor General Jose Calida accordingly urges Supreme Court to scrap it. Based on a previous article, he firmly stated that it was due to the network’s  “highly abusive practices” disregarded for many years.

He also indicated, “We want to put an end to what we discovered to be highly abusive practices of ABS-CBN benefiting a greedy few at the expense of millions of its loyal subscribers…”

But in a response, ABS-CBN and it artists believed that the network have not violated any law. They have accordingly “complied with all pertinent laws governing its franchise and has secured all necessary government and regulatory approvals for its business operations”.

“Noon, pag tinatanong po ako ng nanay ko tuwing napapabalita po ang problema ng prangkisa ng ABS-CBN, I have worked here for over 20 years, sinasabi ng nanay ‘Sana huwag ipasara ang ABS-CBN kasi pag wala ka sa bahay ito ang kasama ko. Alam ko nariyan ka.’ I know this not legal. I know this is not official. This is very personal para sa aking ina pag nakikita niya ang ABS-CBN, alam niyang safe ako, nandiyan ako. Nagta-trabaho ako at uuwi ako sa kanya. Maraming salamat po.”
