DFA Ready To Repatriate 1st Batch Of Pinoys Who Are Still in Hubei Province

DFA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said that it is ready to repatriate the first batch of Pinoys who are trapped in Hubei, China.

Wuhan, China is the epicenter of the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV). The deadly virus had infected thousands of people and caused at least 259 deaths.

Following a previous article, amidst the outcry of the Filipino to ban travel from China, the Philippines now has 56 patients who may be infected. People began panic-buying face masks in fear of contracting the virus.

A disease specialist gave some tips on how to protect yourself from contracting the coronavirus. He said simple oral hygiene may help decrease your chances of getting infected.

In a report, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte had agreed to impose a temporary travel ban from China. However, the ban would be on Hubei Province.

Based on a report from Eagle News, the Department of Foreign Affairs is ready to repatriate the first batch of Pinoys who are still in Hubei province. Wuhan is the capital of the Hubei province.

In the statement, the DFA said the first batch is expected to arrive back in the country next week “subject to China’s rules on disease containment, including immigration clearances, quarantine process, among others.”

“Filipinos in Wuhan City and the rest of Hubei province who wish to be repatriated should contact the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai by 3 February 2020, Monday…”

“Upon arrival in the Philippines, Filipino repatriates will be subjected to 14 days of mandatory quarantine per guidelines of the Department of Health,” the agency said.

According to the report, DFA officials said there were roughly 150 Pinoys in the epicenter of the virus and another 150 in other parts of the province. A chartered plane will bring them home.
