How To Protect Yourself From Coronavirus Infection

CORONAVIRUS – A disease specialist gave some tips on how to protect yourself from the deadly Wuhan coronavirus.

Lots of countries have banned the citizens from Wuhan, China to visit due to the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV). The virus had infected thousands and cause the death of 213 people.

Recently, Antique rep. Loren Legarda asked the Department of Health (DOH) to ban Chinese visitors in the Philippines. However, the health department was not inclined with her recommendation. In a previous article, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said there’s no need to deny Chinese to enter the Philippines amid the nCoV threat.

On Thursday, DOH confirmed the first case of coronavirus in the Philippines. A 38-year-old Chinese woman who traveled to the country from Wuhan consulted a doctor after experiencing a mild cough. She tested positive for the virus.

Because of this, Filipinos began panic buying face masks if fear of contracting the virus. In a previous article, face masks in Iloilo are running out.

On Friday, a disease specialist Dr. Rey Salinel gave some tips on how to protect yourself from the coronavirus infection. Based on a report from GMA News, simple oral hygiene may help decrease your chances of getting infected.

“Maging part na po ng oral hygiene ang pagmumumog po ng maligamgam na tubig na may asin—may coronavirus scare man o wala…”

“Marami pong namamatay na bacteria at viruses sa high-salt concentration.”

According to the report, Dr. Rey Salinel said a glass of lukewarm water and a pinch of salt will make an effective gargling solution. He also urged the people to wash hands with soap and water frequently and use an alcohol-based hand rub.

“Huwag ninyo pong hawakan ang mga mata ninyo, ilong ninyo, bibig ninyo kasi ‘yan po ang portal of entry. Napaka-importante pong malinis ang kamay,” he added.
