Meaning
It refers to the scientific study of insects and a branch of zoology, the study of animals. It was previously the study of terrestrial animals in other arthropod groups or other phyla, such as arachnids, myriapods, earthworms, land snails, and slugs.
The name is derived from two Greek words entomon (ἔντομον) which means insect, and -logia (-λογία) which means study, forming the word entomologia (ἔντομολογία).
It is also a taxon-based category (group-based), like many branches of zoology; and any form of study which involves related inquiries is included in this study of insects.
