Davao del Sur Hit by Earthquake with 3.3 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.3 magnitude quake in Davao del Sur today, January 2, 2020.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao del Sur. At 02:48 am today, January 2, 2020, Sulop was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3. An instrumental intensity was recorded of the said quake.

Earthquake

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao del Sur was located at 06.52°North, 125.29°East – 011 km South 35° West of Sulop. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 026 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated that there are no damages and as well as aftershocks from the quake. The following intensity was recorded:

  • Intensity I – Malungon, Sarangani: Tupi, South Cotabato
