DOLE Mandates GMA-7, Other Firms P890,000-Penalty Over Eddie Garcia’s Death

GMA-7 – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ordered the Kapuso network and the other firms to pay Php 890,000.00 for the death of veteran actor Eddie Garcia.

One of the celebrities who died in 2019 is veteran actor Eddie Garcia. It was in June when an accident took place while he was at the set in Tondo and it led to his sudden demise.

Eddie or also called as “Manoy” or “Tito Eddie” tripped on a cable wire during the taping. He fell to the ground and suffered from a severe cervical fracture.

Eddie Garcia was rushed to the hospital. He fought for his life for several days but succumbed to death on June 20, 2019. He is survived by his longtime partner, Lilibeth Romero, and son Erwin Garcia.

The incident was put under investigation. Speculations that there were no safety officers and first-aid responders at the area crossed the surface. Countless hearts were broken by the death of the legendary actor.

Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) gave its verdict on the incident that led to the death of Eddie Garcia. Based on a report on Pep, the Labor Department orders the GMA-7 and the other firms to pay Php 890,000.00 over the incident.

The DOLE-NCR investigation found out that the Kapuso network violated three (3) provisions during the incident. According to the report, the following were violated:

  • GMA-7 has not reported the incident involving Eddie Garcia right away to DOLE in 24 hours.
  • There was no safety officer at the location of the taping.
  • There was no first-aid responder at the set.

The Kapuso network has previously responded to the violations set by DOLE. But the Labor Department is firm on its decision regarding the heartbreaking incident.
