Isko Moreno Makes Statement Regarding Arrest Of 4 Panday Sining Members

MORENO – Mayor Isko Moreno finally gave a statement regarding the arrest of 4 Panday Sining members who vandalized the streets of Manila.

On Saturday, four members of the cultural youth group Panday Sining were arrested by cops for vandalism and allegedly “interfering in police duties.” They spray-painted the walls near the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Recto Station calling for an end to political restraint against activists.

The authorities also said the suspects resisted arrest by allegedly pushing one of the officers. Three of them were identified as Mikhail Collado, Jeanne Vaughn Quijano, and Joven Laura.

The suspects were brought to the Manila Police Department station after getting caught vandalizing along the streets of Manila. The youth activists were previously warned by Mayor Isko Moreno not to do their ‘art protest’ in the city.

Isko Moreno stated that he already warned the activist not to vandalize the nation’s capital, but they repeated it. They want to rest the leadership of Manila. He said he cannot do anything now so the four members of Panday Sining have to face the consequences.

“You were warned. Nag-abiso na ako. Nananawagan po ako na huwag ninyo nang ulitin. Inulit niyo pa rin. Sinusubukan niyo kung may batas at liderato sa Maynila. Kailangan niyo pong harapin ngayon ang bisa ng batas,” he wrote.

Based on a report from CNN, the youth activist said four of their members were nabbed by the police who wore “civilian clothing” while riding a jeepney. “They were man-handled and beaten while being dragged outside the jeepney,” Panday Sining claimed.

“Protest art in the time of narrowing space for free and critical thinking is not only just but necessary,” it added.
