Manila: Four Panday Sining Members Arrested For Vandalism

Four Panday Sining Members Arrested For Vandalism In Manila

MANILA – Four members of the cultural youth group Panday Sining were arrested Manila police after they were caught vandalizing the post near LRT Recto Station.

Last month, Panday Sining vandalized the newly-painted Lagunislad underpass near the city hall with anti-government graffiti. They marked the wall with “Presyo Ibaba Sahod Itaas,” “Atin Ang Pinas US-China Layas,” and “Digmaan Bayan Sagot sa Martial Law.”

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso slammed the activist saying he will order them to wipe off the graffiti using their tongue. He dismissed their actions as vandalism and not art.

Panday Sining later apologized to the government of Manila while justifying they did that to inform the people about the pressing issues in the Philippines. In a previous article, the mayor rejected their apology. He is certain that people will never go on their side.

“Humihingi daw kayo ng tawad. Sabi niyo doon sa ano, sa ano ‘yun, Facebook account ninyo… Gusto niyo ng real talk? Hindi kayo dadami. Bakit? Kinamumuhian kayo ng tao eh. Bakit kayo kamumuhian? Tama ang layunin ninyo eh pero mali ang pamamaraan ninyo,” said Isko.

Based on a report from Inquirer, four (4) members of the youth activist were arrested for vandalism and allegedly “interfering in police duties.” They attended rallies to commemorate the 156th Bonifacio Day on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the suspects were captured by the Manila Police Department’s District Intelligence Division. They were caught spray-painting on Light Rail Transit (LRT) Recto station.

According to the report, the cops said while they are about to arrest the suspect, they “deliberately interfered in the police operation. They also resisted arrest by allegedly pushing one of the cops. Suspects were identified as Joven Laura (24), Jeanne Vaughn Quijano (24) and Mikhail Collado (18).

Among the message they painted near LRT 2 were “Anong sagot ng supremo sa martial law?” and “Biguin ang de facto martial law.”
