After the crash, he was reported to be resting in Bahay Pagbabago in Malacañang Palace. There, he had complained of hip pains.

During his trip to Japan, it seemed like the pain was still being felt by the President. He was also seen carrying a cane during the ceremony at the Imperial Palace.

With this, the palace had announced that Duterte will be returning to the Philippines early. Duterte was scheduled to return to the country on October 22.
