Filipina Actress Stars In Latest Dreamworks Animated Film “Abominable”

MICHELLE LAGUMEN WONG – This Filipina actress is the voice actor behind one of the lead characters in the latest animated film from Dreamworks.

The Pinay talent would be voicing the mother of the main character of the film, “Yi”. The protagonist is played by Hollywood actress Chloe Bennet.

Abominable is about a young girl who meets a yeti on the roof of their apartment. The movie revolves around Yi and her friends on their quest to return the Yeti to his home.

According to an article by Push, Michelle said that it took months before she knew she was cast as one of the voice actors. The main cast for the movie includes Chloe Bennet, Albert Tsai, Eddie Izzard, and Sarah Paulson.

“We had the time to be able to sort of play around with every scene. We really got to do it as many times as we felt we needed to, to get it right,” the actress said.

The Filipina actress grew up in San Diego, California to a Filipina mother and a Chinese-American father. As per the article by Push, Michelle said that the family-oriented themes of the film were important to her.

The animated film was actually in development at DreamWorks Animations ever since 2010. It was also originally titled, Everest.

Based on reports by Variety, Abominable climbed the box office ladder yesterday with $29.7 million worldwide. It benefited greatly from being one of the few movies that cater to family crowds.

The director of the film, Jim Culton was also the first female to independently make an animated film for a major studio. Dreamworks co-produced the movie with China’s Pearl Studios.
