This is in order to keep the African Swine Fever (ASF) from spreading

The agriculture agency said earlier this week that the ASF outbreak subsided. They also clarified that pork is safe to eat.

However, they also advised not to dump dead pigs on waterways to keep the disease from spreading and, recently, they also advised the public not to buy leftovers from hotels or airports.

A report from GMA News states that the virus could possible came through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Noel Reyes, Agri spokesperson pointed out that this confirms where the disease might came from at that time when they still don”t have any proof.

He further dismissed the chances that it came from domestic sources, saying that it is not endemic to the country, thus, the disease came from other countries.

As per the report, ASF gave little impact on certain areas in the Philippines. However, it is still at risk since it is still allowing imported products.

The Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura said that Less than 1 percent of the hog industry is affected by the ASF. The Agri spokesperson further said that the virus might possibly came from the following:

  • China
  • Europe
  • Central America
  • Africa
    • Kenya

Few enterprising individuals possibly received food wastes, which includes imported meat and pork products, from hotels and airlines. Reyes added that these should be incinerated rather then make business out of it.
