PNP-HPG To Collaborate With MMDA To Manage EDSA Traffic

PNP-HPG – The PNP-HPG announced on Monday that they will begin working with the MMDA in order to manage the traffic on EDSA.

According to GMA News, before they start their duty at 5AM, officers from the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group were with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) authorities in an assembly on EDSA.

The Highway Patrol Group will deploy authorities who will manage the traffic on EDSA from Timog Ave. up to Ortigas Ave. intersection and the other way around until 1AM. This is in order to help in the reduction of traffic on the major thoroughfare.

Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson and assistant secretary said that 43 personnel from the Highway Patrol Group will be deployed on EDSA on Monday. The said personnel will also aid the agency in operations.

As per the report, the agency will also send out officers to ease the traffic in other parts of EDSA, including Balintawak and Roxas Boulevard.

Traffic enforcement chief Emmanuel Tabuena of the Highway Patrol Group said that the Traffic Direction and Control (TDC) officers will aid the MMDA, including rush hours.

Tabuena futher said that they will do what they can with the help of MMDA so that if there are any vehicles that are appearing during rush hour, they can accommodate them in southbound, further implying that the issue was vehicles coming from north goes to Makati.

He added that they are currently identifying very intersection that needs officers so that they might haul vehicles simultaneously and discipline drivers who defy traffic laws, including bus drivers.

Motorists were informed by Pialago that they closed the U-turn slot of the EDSA Main Ave. on both sides ever since Tuesday (September 3).
