Inmate’s Wife Says “GCTA For Sale” Does Exist
YOLANDA CAMELON – The Wife of a New Bilibid Prison inmate appeared in the Senate and testified that the “GCTA For Sale” exists.
Camelon told the Senate that P50,000 was paid for the early release of her husband. She identified two officials whom she allegedly had the transaction with.
She alleged that it was Major Mabel Bansil and Staff Sergeant Ramoncito Roque whom she gave the payments to. Camelon added that Bansil approached her and said that the GCTA system could be taken advantage of.
In this video taken by ABS-CBN, she said Bansil told her that she could have her husband released early if she could shell out P50,000. Camelon then made three separate payments in February.
Camelon said that Bansil then acquainted her to Roque and Veronica Buno, another BuCor staff. She added that she handed the initial P10,000 payment at Roque’s home.
After the initial payment, she stated that she then paid P20,000 twice on separate occasions, finalizing the payments. Camelon expected her husband to have an early release in March, but the release date was delayed.
She was told that the release date would now be on June, although nothing happened. Then she was told it would be on October.
At that point, Camelon said that she was fed up with all the broken promises and wanted her money back. She tried to get back her money from Roque and Bansil but was passed around.
Camelon then alleged that Bansil warned her husband about their persistence to get their money back. Coincidentally, Roque was also at the hearing when the witness appeared.
Roque then denied Camelon’s allegations, saying that he could never do such things. Although, Roque acknowledged that Camelon came to his home with an envelop containing the initial payment.
He then stated that he has returned the amount to Camelon, which she then denied. Sen. Richard Gordon, then told Roque that the act was already bribery.
Gordon then added that Roque should’ve known that they could go to jail for doing such an act. Roque then replied that he didn’t know what to do because there was so much on his mind at that moment.
Senator Gordon said that Roque held so much power being the official handling prisoner records. Roque then told Gordon that he could never do the things Camelon accused him of.
