Facebook To Start Privatizing Number Of “Likes” For Posts

FACEBOOK – The company behind Facebook recently said that it will no longer create a public display of like counts for posts.

This is yet another change by the social media platform, with the earlier one being making the facial recognition an opt-in feature.

Thus, users now have the choice to turn the facial recognition feature on or off. Turning it off will not get you notified of tag suggestions or you will not receive any notification regarding your appearance in other users’ photos.

The changes made by the social media giant can possibly reduce the pressure to gain approval with photos, videos, or comments. Instead, users will simply fixate themselves on what is in the posts.

According to a recent report from GMA News, FB-based photo and video platform Instagram also announced that it is testing the same feature which is hiding like counts and view tallies in about half a dozen countries.

Their spokesperson further said that they also consider doing the same thing for the social media platform.

Another social media platform Twitter also tested the hiding the number of tweet likes and retweets, as told by Kayvon Beykpour, the platform’s product lead.

As per the report, Twitter also discovered that if they couldn’t see the counts, they are likely to get less engaged with Tweets.
