These three Kapamilya stars were the subjects of the showbiz news these past few days. Allegedly, Gerald cheated on Bea for having a relationship with Julia. When the issue surfaced, netizens started to take their sides and many were vocal in supporting Bea while criticizing the Between Maybes stars.
Amid this issue, more names got involved, such as the Barretto siblings, Marjorie, Claudine, and Gretchen. Several other celebrities also expressed support to Bea. Aside from showbiz personalities, politicians also expressed reactions about this such as Senators Nancy Binay and Risa Hontiveros. However, when Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo was asked to react about this, he said that the issue is “inessential and unimportant”.
So, why the Bea-Gerald-Julia controversy became a national issue?
Entertainment columnist Noel Ferrer said in his write-up for PEP that it is because of the stars involved in the issue. “Dahil kung ibang Bea (Binene, Saw, Nicolas) o Gerald (Madrid, Santos o Napoles), pag-uusapan ba ito?” he explained.

Furthermore, people have known their relationship backgrounds before they got together. Ferrer also pointed out the timing of the issue. It surfaced amid the serious talks about various social issues.
Another factor is the influence of social media. Several celebrities in the past were also involved in this kind of controversy but without the aid of social media, it was easy for the issue to subside. Unlike in the past, now, everyone can give an opinion and say something about the issue.
