“The Beast” Calvin Abueva for the past few months had involved himself unintentionally to some issues and controversies both on court life and in his real life. To which these issues have emerged online and reached public’s knowledge.
Now, here is a timeline of some of his controversies:
- Abueva versus Maika Rivera – This issue hit the news reports last May 31, 2019, which apparently suggested his feud with Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s girlfriend Maika Rivera, whom he disrespected and called “b-tch”. The incident happened after the Phoenix’s 103-98 victory against the Blackwater Elite.

- Abueva versus Terrence Jones – This happened when Phoenix had 114-88 blowout defeat against the TNT. In the game is where Abueva had a physical encounter with TNT import Terrence Jones at the crucial final quarter.

- Abueva and his indefinite suspension – PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial ended up in a decision of his indefinite suspension and fined P70,000.00 of which P20,000.00 is for the verbal altercation with a fan and for making obscene gestures, and P50,000.00 for clotheslining Terrence Jones.

- Abueva and “Ligang Labas” issue – Amid his suspension, he was discovered playing in an unsanctioned “ligang labas” basketball game in Montalban, Rizal on Monday, thus, caused him another fine probably in a hefty amount which the association opted not to disclose.
