Chinese Workers in the Philippines Must Pay Taxes, Senator Ralph Recto Says
Senate President Pro-Tempore Ralph Recto wants Chinese workers in the Philippines to pay income taxes to raise government revenues and fund vital programs.
On Friday (July 5, 2019), Ralph Recto said that the Philippine government must properly collect taxes.
The lawmaker said that the government must not only collect taxes from Chinese workers in online gaming but also in other industries including construction works.
“The Bureau of Internal Revenue can’t be strict on Filipinos when it comes to paying taxes, by withholding these at source, while allowing foreign nationals a free pass,” Recto said.
The senator also presented a chart show approved foreign investments and approved foreign employment pass by US, Japan, and China.
The politician said that workers from the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) are required to pay SSS, PhilHealth, and PAG-IBIG aside from the income taxes.
Most of the offshore gaming employees are foreigner from China.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue could gather an estimated amount of P2 billion per month from around 100,000 offshore gaming workers in the country, according to Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez.
