Amid the Ongoing Flood Control Investigation, DILG Chief Jonvic Remulla To Try To Bring Zaldy Co Back to PH
DILG CHIEF – Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla revealed that he is set to fly to Portugal to get Zaldy Co who is accused in the flood control corruption.
Several officials of the Philippine government were tagged in the flood control mess. Many of them are under the Department of Public Works and Highways. The DPWH has become the center of controversy over the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption.

However, what stirred the disappointment and anger of countless Filipinos even more is the alleged involvement of several members of the House of Representatives in the flood control scam. Some senators and former senators are also accused of alleged flood control corruption.
The issue led thousands of people to the streets twice in 2025 to protest against corruption and call for accountability. The Trillion Peso March was held.

One of the then-government officials who were tagged in the flood control issue was Zaldy Co. He is a former representative of Ako Bicol Partylist as well as a former chairman of the House Budget Appropriations Committee.
Amid the flood control accusations, the luxury cars of Zaldy Co worth P145 million were seized by the Bureau of Customs. Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos confirmed that Co is supposedly in Portugal but explained that he cannot be easily brought back to the Philippines.

”You cannot bring him home because hindi – that’s just not the way it works. We have to ask the assistance of the country where he is in, which is presently Portugal,” the President said.
Previously, DILG chief Jonvic Remulla claimed that Marcos Jr. wants an extradition treaty with Portugal for the arrest of Zaldy Co. The Interior Secretary also previously claimed that Co allegedly had “feelers” of wanting to dialogue with the government but it was denied by the camp of the former House member.

Amid his hiding in abroad, through a series of videos posted on social media, Zaldy Co implicated Pres. Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in the flood control mess. Malacañang was quick to defend Marcos Jr. saying that Co allegedly wants the investigation to stop so he tagged the President in the issue.
Amid the continued call for accountability, based on a report on PhilStar, DILG chief Jonvic Remulla is set to fly to Portugal to get Zaldy Co. According to the Interior Secretary, he will meet with the officials of Portugal so they can provide assistance for the return of Co to the Philippines.
Based on the report, graft and malversation charges were filed against Zaldy Co in the Philippines. According to the DILG Chief, the former House member remains in Portugal as per the intelligence of the foreign country.
Previously, it was reported that Zaldy Co was allegedly willing to testify against Marcos Jr. in the impeachment complaint filed against the President. The said two (2) impeachment raps were dismissed by the House Justice Committee.
