Cockroaches Have Become Harder To Kill, New Study Reveals

A new study discovered that cockroaches are now evolving to the point wherein they are becoming harder to kill using numerous insecticides.

Cockroaches are the most common species of insects all around the world, which are considered as pests.

People mostly use poisons, toxins, and different types of insecticides to eliminate cockroaches from their home.

Recently, researchers found that cockroaches are already becoming immune to different poisons.

The experts revealed that in some cases they were unable to reduce the population of cockroaches with various insecticides during a six-month study period.

Purdue University professor Michael Scharf said that the insects’ resistance increases up to six-fold within one generation.

‘Cockroaches developing resistance to multiple classes of insecticides at once will make controlling these pests almost impossible with chemicals alone,’ Scharf.

The researchers conducted an experiment using a single-insecticide and mostly wiped all of the roaches.

However, about 10 percent of the population survived then led to more resistant offspring.

The surviving roaches have already increased four or six folds in just one generation, according to Scharf.
