President Duterte Eyes Doctor-Businessman As New PhilHealth Chief
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte eyes doctor-businessman as the new head of Philippine Health Insurance Corp.
Recently, PhilHealth sued a dialysis center in Quezon City for allegedly claiming the benefits of their deceased patients. The agency chief, Roy Ferrer, said they filed 28 counts of administrative cases against the dialysis center.
The issue of the government-owned health insurance and the dialysis center has reached the office of the president.
President Duterte ordered to probe deeper into the fraud issues and check if there were officials who are behind the anomalies.
In a previous article, Senator-elect Bong Go said the president asked the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. officials to resign.
Duterte’s former assistant also added that they are expecting the resignation letters of the officials to be submitted within a day.
Based on a report from Inquirer, President Duterte is considering a doctor-businessman to be the new head of Philhealth.
There is a probability that Dr. Jaime Tan Cruz will replace Roy Ferrer after the president asked the Philhealth officials to submit their resignation letters.
“He mentioned Dr. Jaime Cruz. He’s from the private sector… He’s waiting for the response of Jaime Cruz for the offer he made to him,” said Palace spokesperson Salvador Panelo.
According to the report, Dr. Jaime Tan Cruz is the chief executive officer of JTC Group of Companies. It is a company that operates a branded food franchise that’s based in Davao City and Metro Manila.
Among its franchises are Chowking, Jollibee, Red Ribbon, and Greenwich. The company’s main office is in Davao City.
JTC Group of companies has 13 stores in Davao City and 36 stores in Metro Manila.
