Negros P135-M Tech Training Center Breaks Ground, Students Oppose

NEGROS – Students opposed the P135M Negros First training center in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Alfredo Marañon previously served as the Mayor of Sagay City before he became the governor of Negros Occidental on June 30, 2010.

The 83-year-old politician is the founder of the Negros First! Which plans to optimize the potentials of Negosanon.

The governor seeks to provide enough food, agricultural productivity, and livelihood for all the people in his province.

Marañon has launched several projects including the recent Negros First Global Institute of Technology (NFGT)

It is an institute that aims to train the Negrosanon for different industries that will meet the demands of the global market.

Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, the groundbreaking of the P135 million NFGT project was held in Talisay City on June 3.

The project has a 2.5-hectare land that is owned by the government.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. along with NFGT head Ma. Christina Basa, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, and Board Member Salvador Escalante.

During the ceremony, several students opposed the construction of the institute saying it will destroy the oval track of Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School.

According to the report, the students from Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School tried to barge in but they were stopped by the police officers.

Ma. Christina Basa said the NFGT will be the new residence of the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center.

The facility in Talisay will provide scholarship programs of Training for Work Scholarship Program and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Based on the report, Christina Basa also stated that two buildings will soon rise after two and a half year. It will be the classrooms and house for the administrative office.

They are also planning to add more classrooms and dormitory for the students.
