Red & Yellow Alert Raised Over Luzon Grid on Holy Monday, NGCP Says
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the Luzon Grid is under red and yellow alert on Holy Monday.
On Monday (April 15, 2019), the Luzon Grid has been placed on Red Alert and Yellow Alert with possible power interruptions in several areas.
Yellow Alert was raised from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm but does not mean that there will be necessary power interruptions.
NGCP said that some areas under Luzon Grid under Red Alert could experience rotating brownouts due to the insufficient power supply from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
The forced outage of multiple power plants causes the insufficient operating reserves prompting electric companies to raise alerts.
Last week, Luzon Grid was under consecutive Yellow Alerts followed by the Red Alert status, which has been raised for the first time this year on April 10, 2019.
The Department of Energy (DOE) assured the Filipino power consumers that there is no power crisis despite the consecutive alerts and insufficient power reserve over the past few weeks.
The Energy Department would also conduct an investigation regarding the matter.
