How true is it that only two movies earned in MMFF 2018?
Only two movies earned as MMFF 2018 released the figure of its box office gross this year.
It has been a tradition in the film industry in the Philippines to feature different movie genres every year as film fest entries.
Every holiday season, moviegoers enjoy the movies from Filipino filmmakers and local artists.
The Metro Manila Films Festival 2018 featured 8 films namely, Rainbow Sunset, One Great Love, Mary, Marry Me, Otlum, Aurora, Fantastica: The Princess, The Prince
Previously, MMFF Spokesperson Noel Ferrer stated that they are aiming to have a P1 billion box office gross.
After the films were shown in cinemas nationwide, Ferrer announced that they exceeded the target.
However, a report from Pang-Masa stated that only two movies really earned in MMFF 2018.
Although the film fest committee announced that they exceeded their target of P1 billion but still not all movies did well in cinemas.
MMFF earnings this year also exceeded the highest record it got back in 2015.
On the other hand, during that year, the price for a movie is much lesser than the current price.
Therefore, it cannot be concluded immediately that more people watched the movies during the MMFF 2018 than the previous years.
It was also said that in 2015 the earnings were evenly distributed because, according to the report, 5 movies earned that year.
Furthermore, the report stated that this year, only two movies in the film fest gained and the rest were “flop”.
As cited, the movie of Ann Curtis Aurora, which is on the third place, did not reach even half of the income of the second placer, the movie of Vic Sotto, Coco Martin, and Maine Mendoza.
