Meet the Filipino and American personalities who fight for the repatriation of the long-lost Balangiga Bells back to the Philippines.

Over the past few weeks, Balangiga bells have been one of the most discussed news in the country after the United States decided to return it to the Philippines.

On Tuesday (December 11, 2018), the three church bells have been finally returned to the country after it was taken by the American soldiers since 1901.

However, several Filipino and American personalities have fight for the rights of the iconic bells before it was returned to the country.

During the 1990s, former President Fidel Ramos and US President Bill Clinton agreed to divide the Balangiga bells between Philippines and United States but got suspended due to the opposition of war veteran in Wyoming.

Some Filipino and American residents fight for the repatriation of the church bells back to the country at the US Congress.

The lobbyist explained that the iconic bells do not belong to the Philippine government but owned by the churches.

Erwin “Swede” Huelsewede, Retired LT General US Air Force, State of Maryland explained that the bells belonged to the church.

Filipina-American Nurse Maria Elena Elamos is one of the people who insist on the repatriation of the bells.
