Court Orders for Arrest Warrant After Sandiganbayan Found Imelda Marcos Guilty of Graft

IMELDA MARCOS GUILTY – The Court orders for the issuance of the arrest warrant against former First Lady Imelda Marcos after she was found guilty of seven counts of graft.

Recently, a news about former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos broke out and took the social media by storm. The Sandiganbayan reportedly found the former First Lady and now Ilocos Norte Representative guilty of graft.

Imelda is the wife of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Two of their children, former Senator Bongbong Marcos and Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, are also in the political arena.

It was the Sandiganbayan 5th Division that released the findings. The Court found Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos guilty of seven counts of graft. She is sentenced to 6-11 years of imprisonment for every count.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the court found Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos guilty of graft for using her position in the Cabinet to maintain the Swiss bank accounts during the regime of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

The decision of the court does not only sentences the former First Lady to imprisonment but it also disqualifies her from holding any position in the government.

Currently, she is on her last term as the representative of Ilocos Norte but she will supposedly vie for a seat in the local government of Ilocos in the 2019 Election.

According to the report, the former First Lady was not present in the courtroom when the verdict over the case was given. Her counsel was also not around. They are given 30 days to explain their absence.

In line with the Sandiganbayan finding former First Lady Imelda Marcos guilty of graft, the court reportedly ordered for the issuance of the arrest warrant against her.
