PAGASA Gives Update on New LPA; List of Areas Affected by ‘Habagat’

LPA might Turn to Tropical Depression -PAGASA

PAGASA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration gave an update on the low-pressure area spotted east of Batanes.

Some parts of the Philippines are suffering from continuous rains for several days now. PAGASA recently spotted another low-pressure area in the east of Batanes. The weather agency released an update on the said LPA.

Based on a recent report on Manila Bulletin, PAGASA said that the LPA may turn to Tropical Depression ‘Neneng’. The development may take place within 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, according to weather specialist Ariel Rojas, the LPA is not expected to make a landfall in any part of the Philippines. That is despite the chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.

PAGASA spotted the LPA at 820 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes on Thursday morning. Although it is expected to make a landfall, it may affect the “habagat” or the southwest monsoon.

Based on the report, the following areas may experience rain showers and thunderstorms because of the “habagat”:

  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • Palawan
  • Albay
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate
  • Aklan
  • Antique
  • Negros Occidental
  • Capiz
  • Guimaras
  • Iloilo
  • Biliran
  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Northern Samar
  • Samar
  • Southern Leyte

Metro Manila and other parts of the Philippines may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers. Based on the report, it is due to “localized thunderstorms”.

According to PAGASA, residents in the areas affected by the Southwest monsoon should watch out for possible landslides and floodings. Metro Manila and the rest of the country are also warned of possible landslides and flash floods.

With regards to the sea condition, the weather agency warned of moderate to rough seas in Southern Luzon and the Visayas due to the “habagat”. Light to moderate seas will reportedly be the condition in other parts of the country.
