AFP Breaks Silence On Revocation Of Trillanes’ Amnesty Grant

AFP To Assemble New Court Martial

AFP – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) broke its silence on the revocation of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s amnesty grant.

Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has reportedly revoked the amnesty grant to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV. The said amnesty grant was given by former Pres. Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III to the former Navy lieutenant.

Trillanes is among those protesters over the alleged corruption under former Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s term in 2007. Although he was detained, he secured a post in the Senate.

In 2016, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV was re-elected.

Recently, Malacañang revealed that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte revoked the amnesty grant to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV. The reason is the alleged failure of the Senator to comply to the minimum requirements.

For his part, the former Navy lieutenant expressed that the revocation of his amnesty grant is “bogus”. According to him, no evidence against him can be found.

In line with the revocation of Sen. Trillanes’ amnesty grant, the Department of Justice and the AFP were ordered to push through the charges against him. The military and the police were also instructed to use all legal means possible to arrest him.

On Tuesday, Sen. Trillanes expressed that he will stay in the Senate. He emphasized that he won’t resist arrest and he won’t escape.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the AFP recently broke its silence on the revocation of the amnesty grant to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV. They will assemble a new court martial for the proceedings on the charges against the Senator.

According to Colonel Edgard Arevalo, the spokesperson of the military, the Senator is now back to his military status after his amnesty grant was revoked. He expressed that he will be under the custody of the military if he will be arrested.

“The court martial will have to be reconstituted as some members have already retired,” he said.
