Trillanes Amnesty Revoked By Duterte , Entices Politicians’ Reaction

Politicians Gave Reaction To The Revocation Of Trillanes Amnesty By President Rodrigo Duterte

TRILLANES AMNESTY – Politicians, mostly lawmakers reacted to President Duterte’s revocation of amnesty granted to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

Based on the report, the Palace revealed that the amnesty grant of the Senator was revoked by Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte via Proclamation No. 572. They further said that Trillanes failed to comply with the “minimum requirements”. The police and military were tasked to arrest the senator, while the DOJ was instructed to push through charges against him.

Trillanes, on the other hand, says that the supposed “revocation” is bogus and trumped up. He further said that they actually have no case found to file against him so they have to invent one. Thus, he said that he will consider all the legal ways and even stressed that he will neither get away nor will he refuse arrest.

That being said, politicians gave negative reaction regarding Duterte’s revocation of Proclamation No. 75.

A recent report from GMA News said that the opposed politicians identified the said revocation as a  clear political persecution.

To start things off, Senator Francis Pangilinan said that this could not possibly be easily set aside by the whims of one man. He further added that the amnesty proclamation must require their concurrence, thus, rendering it not immediately executory and illegal.

As per the report, Another politician who reacted is Senator Risa Hontiveros, who said that the proclamation is unconstitutional for the very same reason.

She further added that while the Executive has the power to grant amnesty, it must have the concurrence of a majority of all the members of Congress.

Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV said the opposition will not back down amid threats from the administration.
