NAIA RUNWAY – The closure of the runway at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be extended from 4:00 p.m.

Today, August 17, several flights were affected by the closure of a NAIA runway. Based on a report, the closure happened after Xiamen Air flight MF 8667 had a hard landing last Midnight.

The Chinese passenger plane contained 157 passengers and 8 crews. Fortunately, everyone is safe. The plane went off the runway because of the bad weather.

More than 25 flights are cancelled today because of the runway closure. International and local flights are affected and as well as diverted flights.

Previously, Ed Monreal said that they are planning to extend the closure of the runway to 4:00 p.m. He is the General Manager of Manila International Airport Authority.

According to Monreal, the opening of the runway depends on the “progress of the recovery”. He also stressed that they are trying their best as several flights are affected by the closure.

Supposedly, the NAIA runway will open at 12:00 noon according to CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco. However, the process of removing the Chinese passenger plane is still on-going. He shared that an aircraft investigation team is on the area.

The passengers whose flights are among those affected by the runway closure were advised to communicate with their airlines.

Recently, an update about the NAIA runway closure crossed the surface. Based on the post on the Twitter account of ABS-CBN News, the MIAA said that the closure of the NAIA runway would be extended.

The runway will be closed until 7:00 o’clock in the evening. Based on the report, the management expressed that they are still waiting for the crane that will aid in taking the aircraft from the area.
