Micab’s Accusations About “Phantom Booking” Is False, Says Grab

Grab Says Micab’s Accusations Against Them is Untrue and Malicious

MICAB – Grab denies rival company Micab’s accusations claiming they received “phantom bookings” from the company.

Eddie Ybañez, Micab’s chief executive officer and co-founder of the said company, recently accused Grab that they allegedly sent “fake bookings” to them.

Ybañez further added that the scheme allegedly revolves around rides that were booked but later canceled. Most of these bookings were then allegedly followed by a call recruiting their drivers to switch to Grab.

The attacks went up from 29,000 eve since June. The alleged “phantom bookings” stopped on July 27 (Friday).

This caused a “significant drop” in their acceptance rate from a level of 40%, according to Ybañez.

He noticed the issue when he looked into the passenger accounts that had canceled at least three times in short intervals. Micab, later, made an algorithm that would ban the phantom bookings.

A similar incident happened when Grab was also accused by Ryde Technologies, its rival in Singapore, for that same reason. The difference, however, was that Ryde was able to address the issue because of Singapore’s strict regulation of SIM cards.

Ryde was able to trace the SIM cards pointing to two locations in which Grab was located.

According to a report in Inquirer, Brian Cu, head of Grab Philippines, declared that the allegations were untrue and seemed to have malicious intent. They warned to even sue Micab if they keep insisting their claim.

Based on the report, Ybañez said that since the phantom bookings had disappeared, he would no longer comment as “the goal was… for the issue to stop as it was affecting [our] drivers.”

As of now, he said that they cannot determine if the drivers transferred to Grab.
