Malacañang Palace: President Duterte To Visit Pag-asa Island Within His Term

President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Pag-asa Island within his term to show the country’s sovereignty over it, Malacañang Palace says.

Previously, Mr. Duterte faces criticisms accusing him of being too soft when it comes to China regarding the maritime dispute in the West Philippine Sea.

On Friday (May 18, 2018), Malacañang Palace release a statement that the president will visit Pag-asa Island before his term ends.

Duterte’s possible visit on the island will show that the Philippines has sovereignty over the disputed island, according to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Ang pagbisita po ng isang Presidente sa Pag-asa ‘yan po ay ebidensya ng soberenya at kung hindi man ngayon gagawin ‘yan ng Presidente tingin ko bago matapos ang termino niya,” Roque said quoted by Msn.

The president will make a trip to the island to visit the soldiers and its residents.

President Duterte will surely go the Island although there is no final date has been set, according to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) insisting the rights of the ownership of the Philippines to Pag-asa Island, which is still a part of Palawan.
