PNP Officials Who Demolished Illegal Sand Castles In Boracay Lambasted By Netizens

The netizens have expressed their anger towards the PNP officials over the demolition of illegal sand castles in Boracay.

Previously, the officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have launched their operation of destroying illegal sand castles in Boracay.

The police officers explained that the sand castle makers need to get permits first before building a sand castle in the tourist spot.

PNP has launched the operation as a compliance to the ordinance restraining artworks used as background picture and with a corresponding fee per photo.

Senior Insp. Mark Anthony Gesulga, chief of the Boracay tourist assistance center stated that they pursue to conduct an inspection if the sand castles have permits.

In 2007, an ordinance stating that sandcastles are only allowed for special events or promotional activities.

However, the ordinance requires the sand castle makers to secure a mayor’s permit and need to pay for regulatory fees.

Violators of the ordinance would be fined with P2, 000 in the first attempt. On the second attempt, violators would pay the fined and would be jailed for a period of 30 days.

However, the netizens have lambasted the cops for the demolition of sand castles and expressed their opposition to the ordinance. The social media users said that most of the builders are children and the money they earn from it is a big help for them.

Sandcastle is one of the main attractions in Boracay, which was made for the tourists to take photographs.
