PAGASA Raises Storm Signals To More Areas As Bagyong Urduja Moves Near Samar

Storm signals have been raised to more areas in the country as Bagyong Urduja moves closer to Northern and Eastern Samar.

On Saturday (December 16, 2017), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on its 8 am weather bulletin that more areas southern Luzon are expected to be placed under storm warning signals.

Bagyong Urduja has maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) and could gust up to 95 kph near the center, moving west at 10 kph.

PAGASA said earlier that Mindoro Provinces, Batangas, and Cuyo and the Calamian group of islands in Palawan might be placed under storm signal no. 1 by Saturday afternoon.

The state weather bureau also alerted the residents of Bicol Region and the Visayas, southern Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon for possible flash floods and landslides due to heavy rains.

Fisher folks under the storm-affected areas were also advised to avoid sea travel, which remains risky due to the weather disturbance.
