Eat Bulaga TV Host Joey de Leon Apologizes For His Distasteful Remarks Over Depression
The Filipino comedian/TV host Joey de Leon has finally issued a public apology for his distasteful remarks over depression.
Previously, De Leon dismissed as “just made up” an elderly woman suffering from depression, which garnered different feedbacks from the public. Even the actress and host Maine Mendoza corrected his statement.
However, the celebrity stood on his grounds and said that those people (suffering from depression) should not be supported, instead of correcting himself.
The Youth for Mental Health Coalition (Y4MH), a group of students raising the awareness of the Filipino people about depression said that a public apology from the comedian is not enough to make up on his misleading statement.
The mental health group said that the 70-year-old veteran TV host should consult health advocates to learn more about depression, a mental condition taking thousands of lives worldwide every year.
On Friday (October 06, 2017), Joey de Leon has finally issued a public apology regarding his colorful remarks about the mental condition. He admitted that he underestimated the effect of depression.
The TV host made the public apology during the Juan for All, All for Juan” segment on Eat Bulaga.
“Nagkamali po ako, Dala ng gulo at tuksuhan natin, naging mababaw lang at magaan ang pagtanggap ko sa salitang ‘yan,” said by de Leon quoted by GMA.
The comedian also admitted that he was wrong and explained that he doesn’t know everything and he had learned something from it.
