Mental Health Group Says Joey de Leon’s Apology Not Enough,

A mental health group said that an apology set to issue by the Filipino actor and comedian Joey de Leon is not enough for them.

A mental health organization said that Joey de Leon could make up for his misleading statements about depression not only by apologizing to the public but also by consulting health advocates who can help him learn more about depression.

Depression is a mental health condition affecting over 300 million people all around the world, which is also one of the primary factors why do people are committing suicide.

The group also invited the TV host for an education discussion after releasing a statement about the mental health condition on the noontime show “Eat Bulaga.” De Leon dismissed as “just made up” an elderly woman’s depression.

The host Maine Mendoza corrected the veteran host about his statement and said that this mental condition should not a laughing matter and people suffering from depression should be supported.

However, De Leon stood his ground instead of correcting himself. He also said that those people should not be supported, which prompted the mental health coalition to correct the comedian.

“These statements are grossly misinformed and present potentially dangerous ideas to the general public. The sad truth is that these same ideas may be shared not uncommonly by people around us—extending the struggle to providing a new perspective to people who view depression through uninformed lenses,” said by Y4MH quoted by Inquirer.
