Typhoon Hato Killed About 10 People In China
The devastating typhoon Hato leaves 10 people dead after battering skyscrapers and flooding the streets in Hong Kong, China.
On Wednesday (August 23, 2017), typhoon Hato causes severe destruction along its path. The typhoon was raised to Signal No. 10 due to its powerful wind, which is only the third storm pounded the financial hub for the past 20 years.
The storm causes a flood on the streets and killed five people in the gambling mecca of Macau. While popular mega-casinos in the area were operating using a backup generator.
One of the typhoon victims died after a wall blew down, another Chinese tourist was struck by a truck, and the other one fell from a fourth-floor terrace. The information regarding the death of two other victims are currently not available.
An 83-year old man died after he fell into the sea in a town neighboring Hong Kong after swept by the devastating storm. Over 120 people were injured in the area after the area has been smashed by the pounding rain and hurricane winds.
Four people died in the Southern Chinese province of Guangdong and about 26, 917 people were displaced and evacuated to safer grounds, while over 2 million houses have no electricity due to the typhoon.
The authorities also issued warning and alerts over the possible flooding and landslides in the areas affected by the typhoon.
The typhoon passed 60 kilometers from Hong Kong and lands in the southern mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. It also shut down the stock market in the area of 7.3 million people.
The powerful storm brought flying debris, smashed skyscraper windows, scaffoldings, and tear down trees, which prompted Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific axing to cancel more than 400 flights.
