Typhoon Hato is estimated to be transversing at about 25kmh towards the vicinity of Pearl River Estuary.

As Typhoon Hato moves closer, strong winds have been affecting the waters of the city.

According to Hong Kong Observatory, water levels in different areas rapidly increased. Quarry Bay recorded 3.6m water level while a water level of 5m has been expected at Tolo Harbour.

Flooding may also occur in various areas.

This is the first time that Typhoon Signal No. 10 has been issued in Hong Kong since July 2012 and based upon HKO data, it’s the 15th highest warning since 1946.

Typhoon Signal No. 10 means “hurricane force wind is expected or blowing with sustained speed reaching upwards from 118km an hour and gusts that may exceed 220km an hour,” as published in Financial Times.

Last year, Hong Kong has been lockdown after signal no. 8 was raised due to Super Typhoon Haima.
