The Umagang Kay Ganda hot Dawn Chang gives surprise to Apo Whang-Od who was dubbed as “The Last Mambabatok” in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The morning show host Dawn Chang has visited the 100-year-old Apo Whang-Od of Buscalan Village, in Tinglayan, Kalinga. She surprised the traditional tattoo artist by giving her favorite pair of shoes.

Whang-Od is a Filipina tattoo artist who was pushed to be one of the National Artist of the Philippines. If the mambabatok will pass the validation, she will be nominated to be on the list of National Living Treasures Awardees, which will be sent to the president for final approval.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) said that the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) only validates the tattoo artist based through its art.

Mababatok means a tradition Kalinga tattooist from the people of Buscalan in Tinglayan, Kalinga. She has been tattooing headhunters of Butbut in Kalinga for over 80 years.

Nowadays, Whang-Od was applying her traditional tattoo art form to the tourists visiting Buscalan.

Meanwhile, the mambabatok was enjoying the pair or rubber shoes given by Dawn Chang.
