Here’s the Reason Why James Reid Was Chosen as New ‘Pedro Penduko’

Actor-heartthrob James Reid has been chosen to play the titular character of Pinoy superhero, Pedro Penduko.

During the opening day of the HISTORY Con 2017 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, it was announced that the 24-year-old actor will portray the role of Pedro Penduko in its movie reboot.

In an interview with PEP.ph and other members of the press, James Reid said that this would be his “first time to [take] on a big role,” thus he “never played a superhero before.”

James Reid will be the fifth actor to play the titular character after Janno Gibbs and Matt Evans who were among to depict the role via big screen and television.

Meanwhile, the social media community had mixed reactions to the portrayal of the Filipino-Australian actor of the all-Pinoy comic book character, created by Francisco V. Conching, the National Artist for Visual Arts.

While some express their support to the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate, others weren’t enthusiastic over his selection to play the character.

But the reimagination of Epik Studios of Pedro Penduko, which initially started via the release of the first official graphic novel (Pedro Penduko: The Legend Begins)—contributed to putting some perspective of the casting of the It’s Showtime host.

Pedro Penduko which is under VIVA Films and Epik Studios will kick off theaters in 2018.
