Mohammed bin Salman Appointed By Saudi Arabia’s King As Heir After Ousting Nephew As Crown Prince
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has appointed his son Mohammed Bin Salman as heir after ousting his nephew Mohammed bin Nayef as crown prince.
The 31-year-old Mohammed Bin Salman, son of Saudi’s King Salman has been installed as the heir. King Salman appoints his son as the new prince to replace his nephew and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef.
Prince Mohammed has been congratulated by the 45th US President Donald Trump via phone call where in the White House committed a close cooperation with the Middle East for security, stability, and prosperity.
President Trump was reportedly talked with Prince Mohammed discussing the priority of cutting all the support for terrorists and extremists. The US leader also discussed of how they can address the ongoing dispute with Qatar.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has also congratulated the new prince. He also expressed his hope to have a brotherly relation between their countries.
Andreas Krieg of the Defense Studies Department at King’s College London said that King Salman should strengthen his son’s position especially that now where in Mohammed is the “de facto ruler of the kingdom.”
The ousted Prince Mohammed bin Nayef has also supported the new crown prince Mohammed bin Salman kneel down and kiss his hand. The older prince also patted his shoulder to his cousin to congratulate him.
All the governors, princes, and top Saudi officials were called to pledge allegiance and loyalty to the new crown prince. Ordinary citizens have also pledged their allegiance through posting on their Twitter account.
The 57-year-old Mohammed bin Nayef was also ousted as interior and deputy prime minister. His nephew, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef will replace his position to take control of the security forces in the kingdom.
