Duterte Names New DENR Secretary After Rejection Of Lopez’s Appointment

ROY CIMATU – After the appointment of former Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez was rejected, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has named the next person to replace her as environment secretary.

Lopez’s appointment as the environment secretary has been rejected by the panel of Commission on Appointments.

Based on a recent news report in Phil Star Global, Pres. Duterte named former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Roy Cimatu as the new DENR secretary.

The naming of the new environment Secretary came five days after the CA has rejected the appointment of Lopez.

According to the news report, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella expressed that they are “confident Secretary Cimatu shall faithfully serve the interest of the country and the Filipino people.”

The former AFP chief has taken his oath of office yesterday in the Palace according to the report.

Based on a previous news report, many were saddened by the verdict of the CA over the appointment of the former DENR Secretary. One of those who have expressed their reaction is the presidential sister Jocellyn Duterte-Villarica.

Jocellyn took to her social media account her impression of the former DENR secretary. According to her, her impression of Lopez was that she is “humanitarian at heart”.

She also described Lopez as a “person who would do things with a great deal of passion”.

However, the presidential sister compared Lopez’s ideals to the political field to water and oil. According to her, it might not be suited for the political field.

Nevertheless, Jocellyn expressed in her post her awareness that the rejection of Lopez’s appointment as the environment secretary will not make her step back from fulfilling her mission.
