Giant Lapu-Lapu or Grouper Found in Pandan, Antique

A giant grouper or locally known as Lapu-Lapu was found by the fisher folks of Antique and the residents found something inside its stomach.

On Tuesday early morning (April 25, 2017), the fisher folks in Pandan, Antique caught a giant Lapu-Lapu. The huge fish was estimated weighing about 200 kilograms, and 7-feet in length, which can barely be seen here in the Philippines.

The giant fish was immediately brought in the market of Kalibo, Aklan and it was considered as the biggest fish brought in the municipality of Kalibo. The fish vendors and customers in the market were surprised when they found a security guard’s badge inside the fish’s stomach.

Lapu-Lapu

Grouper is the common name given to fish in one of two large genera: Epinephelus and Mycteroperca. Lapu-Lapu is also one of the most popular and high-cost fish here in the country due to its quality and taste.

Lapu-Lapu usually has a weight of 100 kilograms and prefers to swallow their prey rather than biting it, because they do not have teeth at the edges of their jaws.
