According to an article published by website, Kami, the province is “earthquake proof” as it is said to be the “most stable island” in the country.

The article noted that the province stands at 30-kilometer continental rocks. Apparently, Palawan has no active volcanoes, neither active faultlines nor deep trenches.

However, the largest province in the country in terms of total area of jurisdiction has experienced quakes before.

Meanwhile, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Renato Solidum warned the public about linking the series of earthquakes in Batangas to the feared motion of the West Valley Fault which might trigger the so-called “The Big One.”

The 100-kilometer fault traverses parts of Bulacan through Quezon City, Marikina, Makati, Pasig, Taguig and Muntinlupa in Metro Manila; San Pedro, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Cabuyao and Calamba in Laguna; and Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez and Silang in Cavite.

On the other hand, based on the latest earthquake bulletin, Batangas was struck by Magnitude 2.6 earthquake. The quake hit at exactly 12:31 pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
