Dr. Joyce Hidalgo Reveals What To Do When Heatstroke Strikes

Doctor Joyce Hidalgo expressed some advices on how to deal with heatstroke.

Doctor Joyce Hidalgo shared the important things that should be done by the people when heatstroke strikes.

Along with the summer season that is fast approaching in certain countries including the Philippines are threats of several health concerns that people should be prepared of. One of it is heatstroke.

Based on a recent news report in Manila Bulletin, Dr. Hidalgo, Butuan City Health Officer and Butuan Medical Center (BMC) Chief, expressed that heatstroke usually strikes when the temperature of the body is at 42 degree Celsius.

According to the report, the health officer told the source in an exclusive interview that the said condition is more common in places where the roads are cemented and there are less trees, the urban area.

With regards to the usual victim of heatstroke, the workers in a construction, the traffic enforcers, and the people who commute through public vehicles are more prone to the said condition according to him. He also cited that senior citizens are also more prone to heatstroke.

Based on the news report, the doctor said that the people who are going to the beach are recommended to “control sunbathing” and prevent ones self from exposing too much under the heat of the sun.

To avoid dehydration, Dr. Hidalgo also expressed an advice to the people to keep on hydrating themselves with water.

The health officer said that when the heatstroke strikes, an ice pack should be placed on the neck and the wrists should be placed under the flowing water. Preventing the intake of caffeinated beverages is also advised and as well as the chewing of frozen fruits.

Moreover, based on the report, those who are more prone to heatstroke are advised by the health officer to wear shirts with light colors, equip themselves with hat, and prevent exposure under the sun between 10:00 o’clock in the morning and 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon.
