Cebu City Will Hold The Road Test For Hybrid E-Train
The hybrid e-train donated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) was set to test in the midtown and downtown of Cebu City.
Starting February 15, 2017, the road test for the hybrid train will be conducted around the city of Cebu. The electric train is powered by 300kva generator and dry cell batteries. The train contains five connected buses, which can accommodate around 240 passengers.
Local engineers from DOST’s Metal Industry Research and Development Center designed the hybrid train. DOST voluntarily donated the train and Cebu did not ask for it, according to City Mayor Tomas Osmeña. He also said that they will utilize the train as much as they can.
He also expects that the train can perform well despite buses in the area is difficult to accommodate in the city. Osmeña had already the proposed route for the electric train donated by DOST. Here is the plan for the proposed route.
The train would start from Fuente Osmeña Oval going to Osmeña Boulevard, left turn to P. del Rosario St. then proceed to Imus New Road, right turn to General Maxilom Extension, right turn to S. Osmeña Avenue, right turn to Commerce Street, right turn to Benedicto Street, left turn to General Maxilom Extension, turn left to Imus New Road, straight to P del. Rosario Street, proceed to N. Bacalso Avenue, right turn to V. Rama Avenue, right turn to B. Rodriguez Street and then to back to the Fuente Osmeña Oval.
The final route for the road test of the hybrid train will be announced by the Cebu City Transportation Office. The road test of the electric road train will be monitored and evaluated by the CCTO’s technical personnel and DOST’s personnel if it is suitable for the city.
