DOH Urges LGU To Impose ‘No Firecracker Zone’ In Residential Areas

‘No Firecracker Zone’ In Residential Areas, Suggested By DOH

Department of Health (DOH) urges Local Government Units (LGU) to impose ‘No Firecracker Zone’ in several residential areas.

The health agency postponed the executive order that will strictly prohibit the use of firecrackers nationwide this year and to implement the proposed bill next year. DOH considers the manufacturers and vendors in firecracker industry in postponing the executive order.

But DOH urges the local government unit to implement ‘No Firecracker Zone’ in some residential areas to reduce the number of firecracker casualties. This is their only temporary solution to reduce the increasing numbers of firecracker victims every year.

'No Firecracker Zone'

In Barangay Magallanes, Makati City, selling, manufacturing, storing, and use of firecracker are still strictly prohibited. Pyro technique devices and explosive materials were still not allowed in celebrating Christmas and New Year’s day safe and sound.

Bureau of Fire Protection in Iloilo City recommends prohibiting selling firecracker on the sidewalks. BFP firetrucks also poured water in conjunction with the OPLAN “iwas paputok” of DOH, which symbolizes the readiness in responding to any emergency incidents that may occur during holiday seasons. DOH also suggested LGU, to have a community fireworks display during the holidays.

DOH suggests to residents of Northern Mindanao to use hornpipe and other alternatives to create noise during the celebration of Christmas season. As of now, there’s still no permit issued by the local government of Cagayan De Oro for firecracker vendors.

'No Firecracker Zone'

Previously, President Rodrigo Duterte also announced that he will postpone the nationwide firecracker ban in the Philippines considering the manufacturer and vendor who already bought materials in selling firecrackers.

In 2017, the president will strictly impose the nationwide firecracker ban in the country like what he did in Davao City, where there are no firecracker-related cases were recorded for the past few years.
