No Show: DOJ Unsure Dayan Will Avail Witness Protection Program

Justice Sec. Aguirre said that no message regarding Dayan to submit affidavit at DOJ reached him.

NO – Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said that there is still no information stating that Ronnie Dayan will go to the Department of Justice to file his affidavit for Witness Protection Program (WPP) inclusion.

The names Ronnie Dayan and Kerwin Espinosa have recently been the content of several news headlines after they have laid down their claims regarding the allegations of illegal drug trade.

Dayan has been arrested by the police authorities at the province of La Union while Espinosa had been hiding and was arrested in the United Arab Emirates. As they gave their testimonies at the hearing, both pinned down Sen. Leila De Lima.

Dayan is the former driver, bodyguard, and lover of the Senator who is allegedly involved in the proliferation of of illegal drugs inside the national penitentiary. In their claims, both Dayan and Espinosa said that De Lima has received money from Espinosa.

However, Sen. De Lima absolutely denies the allegations against her. Based on a previous news report, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said that the government has agreed to provisionally accept Dayan and Espinosa in the Witness Protection Program.

Furthermore, the Justice Secretary revealed that the move could make Dayan divulge more information of what he knows.

After his appearance at the hearing, Dayan asked to be brought back to Pangasinan to see his kids which was granted. He was brought back to his home province and spent time with his family.

In a recent news report in InterAksyon, it is stated that Justice Secretary Aguirre said that Dayan has not yet appeared before the Department of Justice to hand-in his affidavit for him to be included in the Witness Protection Program (WPP).

News media men and women were told by Aguirre that any message from Dayan entailing that he will go to DOJ has not yet reached him.

Based on the news report, there are several privileges for a person who will be included in the WPP. The benefits include a safe house that could be shared with the other members of the family, monetary cash aid, and as well as medical and travel fees.

On the side of Espinosa, Aquirre said, “According to Kerwin’s lawyer they are going to make a motion with the court who issued the warrant of arrest to allow the transfer.”

“Kung ayaw nila ok very good, kung gusto nila ok din [If they don’t want it then okay very good, if they do then it is also good],” the Justice Secretary added.

Further revelations are expected from Dayan and Espinosa to solve the puzzles of the alleged drug trade inside the national penitentiary.
