Scientist: Eating Ice Cream For Breakfast Could Make You Smarter

A study conducted in Japan found out that there has never been a better excuse to eat ice cream for breakfast.

A Japanese scientist who conducted a study has discovered that people who eat ice cream before eating breakfast could become smarter.

According to the research of Yoshihiko Koga, a professor at Kyorin University in Tokyo, ice cream boosts the reaction times of people and reduces mental irritation.

In his study, Koga asked test respondents to eat ice cream before eating breakfast in the morning.

The test subjects then completed a series of mental exercises on a computer.

On the other hand, Koga tested another group of people who had eaten a normal breakfast.

At the end, the professor discovered that those who ate ice cream were better at processing new information and showed faster reaction times.

Koga examined the brain activity of the subjects, and he found that ice cream eaters are fired off with abundant high-frequency Alpha-waves, which are linked with reduced mental irritation and high alertness.

Because of this, Koga considered that the ice cream eaters may have simply been shocked into high alert by the ice cream’s freezing temperature.

The professor then tested another group, and this time, he gives a cold glass of water as soon as they leave the bed.

It was found out that while the cold water test subjects showed that their alertness and mental capacity were boosted, their levels did not reach to those who start their day with ice cream for breakfast.

Despite of these findings, Koga will continue his study with this cold cream by trying to narrow down the precise ingredient giving a morning boost on the respondents.

Professor Koga, who teaches in the said university for years already, is a specialist in psychophysiology who has previously investigated the links between certain food types and stress relief.

Aside from the said study, he has also examined how some food types affect the ageing process.

His study is not the first to sing the praises of a sweeter breakfast because in 2012, scientists from Tel Aviv University in Israel conducted a study which found that eating chocolate cake for breakfast could help in weight loss.
